My 49 Years of Faith and Fellowship at Church of the Servant (Awesome) - Anne Knopf
Awe –Throughout the years
- . . . from the very first Eucharist, sitting on the floor of a living room with our baby and 2-year old running around
- . . . services in many places, in and outside, cribs and prayer books in car trunks; more recently, tent in the yard, chairs and “pulpit” brought out; celebrations of life outside
- . . . A building actually built
- . . . An addition, a sanctuary–and eventually a blue ceiling
- . . . An extension for youth space – “cheers-from-all”
- . . . Huge yard sales early on; then a real Bargain Box
- . . . COS community sharing spiritually in sermons, small groups, retreats, lobster sales, service projects
Challenges – Throughout the years
- . . . how to exist with little money
- . . . maintenance of everything—building repair, yard keep up, added conveniences such as kitchen, chairs, etc.
- . . . maintenance of us, the people—how to meet needs, set goals, work with differences, and most of all how to live into our Christian heritage
Reality – Now, for me
- . . . Awe continues
- . . . Challenges continue
. . . And that makes Church of the Servant Home—a home filled with history, a home where we share the love of God, where we grow together within this love, love which provides an umbrella of shelter and care for all.
