Lessons in Navigation - Emily Bliss
How can I write about anything else but accepting the role of Committee Chair for the 50th Anniversary Celebration! I think I was too ignorant to be scared, so I said Yes. Also, who can say No to Geneva Reid?
It is early and we have already had cancellations and postponements and everyone has just accepted it and gone forward.
People say getting to know others through a committee is the best way to know them, and I am certainly learning that. First of all, how much better can it get than to be on a committee with the early members of COS? They have been the heart and soul of this Church for 50 years, participating and leading wherever they were needed. They have hung in there through the early years when it was “Brother Love’s Traveling Salvation Show,” and they have hung in there through death, sickness, slow economic times, and COVID.
I love our meetings when the long-time members tell us stories about the early days, and I love to watch when they bring their adult children to church when they visit. I often wonder if those children know how lucky they are to have traveled all over the U.S. and other countries while being guided by such teachers.
I look forward to seeing the young children that attend today and wonder how they will turn out as they grow. I so admire all of the teachers who have led catechesis. To me they are the unsung heroes of the church.
There are too many people I would like to mention. There is no way I am going to make the mistake of leaving anyone out, so just know that if I have had contact with you, you have left an imprint.
Please know that everyone in the church has contributed to the journey Mike and I are on as we try to follow the road to salvation as we negotiate this world in which we live.
