A Different Easter Egg Hunt
Church of the Servant was ready for the annual Easter egg hunt. Parish members contributed over 900 pieces of individually wrapped candy. On Palm Sunday, the Illumin8’ers packed the candy into 400 plastic eggs and sampled just enough candy to verify that it was fresh and ready for general consumption. All agreed the candy was good, but it tasted so much better when they were little egg hunters. Plastic eggs were carefully clicked shut. Leaders announced plans for assembling on Easter Sunday to hide the eggs in the courtyard. Favorite hiding locations from years past were remembered and shared. We were ready!
Mother Nature had her own plans for Easter Sunday. She presented us with rain and 50-degree temperatures. That’s not suitable weather even for the most enthusiastic egg hunters. What were we going to do? Our Illumin8 leaders hatched a plan. Instead of an outdoor Easter egg hunt, we hosted an “egg-stravagant” indoor adventure.
Illumin8’ers staffed their posts down the main hallway, through the little kitchen, and into the parish hall. Each held one or more Easter baskets filled with pre-packed eggs. Egg hunters could make the circular journey. We were ready!
The pre-assembled egg hunters eagerly awaited in the main entry way of the church. When the door was finally opened, they streamed into the hallway searching for the next offering of Easter treats. Around and around they went. Seekers could make multiple circuits and collect as many plastic eggs as their baskets, buckets or bags could carry.
What did you get? Eggs! Candy! Look! Sour patch kids! They’re my favorite!
Even the newest egg hunters were introduced to the “egg hunting” experience. Next year they will be ready for an outdoor adventure … if the weather permits. We are passing along a tradition for Easters yet to come.
